CLUB RULES AND TRACK ETIQUETTE
These rules are intended to ensure the smooth running of the club, the health and safety of its members, to enhance everyone’s enjoyment and above all to create an equal opportunity for all.
General Rules
Respect the decisions of the Clerk of the track at all times his decision is FINAL!
All persons attending the club are expected to respect and maintain the rights, feelings and property of all other persons attending the club. All persons attending the club are expected to respect and maintain the race venue and all property belonging to it. All equipment that belongs to the venue and not the club must not be used without prior consent from the organisers. Non members are allowed to race for a maximum of 6 meetings. Membership is from January to December and includes BRCA membership. Details of rates can be found on the membership form. Bad language and bad behaviour will not be tolerated. Make sure you take ALL your litter home with you and do not leave cigarette ends anywhere.Remember we need to protect our venue. A First Aid kit and fire extinguisher can be located via the race controller. It would be helpful if anyone qualified in First Aid could make this known on any membership renewals.
Arrival and Registration
On arrival park only in the designated parking area. All drivers are expected to help with either setting up or clearing away of the track and other race equipment as appropriate, unless there is a good reason. Registration should be done as promptly as possible to allow the race organiser to make up the races. You will be given one call for last minute registrations. Be aware you may be asked to change your frequency if there is a conflict in your race. It is helpful if you have a selection of frequencies to choose from and at least 3 are registered If you know you will be late arriving you can use your club contacts sheet to get a phone number to call and book in. You will still need to see the race controller on arrival to complete your registration before racing.
Peg Board & Practice Session
Before switching on your car or transmitter make sure that the Peg Board is out and in operation. The Peg Board on race nights is only used for the practice session. Before switching on double-check your frequency and make sure you have the peg for that frequency clipped to your aerial. Practice sessions should last no more than 8 minutes at one time. You should then return the peg to allow someone else use of that frequency. There should be no more than 10 cars on the track at any one time. Once the races have been set and called check your car number. Practise session is now over. ALL pegs should be returned to the board and only those people who are in the first race have the right use their frequency. Frequency control is now done by the race controller only. If you require a frequency to work on your car between races you MUST see the race controller (between races) who will check if it is available and for how long. Anyone found using a transmitter without the correct formalities could find themselves excluded from the club on grounds of safety.
Racing
Be sure your car number is correct and the correct transponder is fitted. If it is not fitted correctley or a wrong transponder fitted your laps my not get counted correctly.Race duration is 5 minutes. Be ready for your race before it is due to start. There will be a minimum of 2 minutes between each race. This is to allow enough time for the racers to pit their cars, ensure their radios are turned off and get out to marshal. One call only may be made for cars that are not on the line when they should be as holding up a race delays the whole event and means that cars on the line could over heat or use up valuable battery power while waiting. Drive to your ability. Drivers must take responsibility for the speed at which they drive and the power of motor they use. It is an individuals responsibility to make sure they do not cause damage or injury to persons due to neglecting their responsibility If a faster driver is coming up to lap you pull over off the racing line to let them through If you are lapping someone let them know and wait until they pull over. DO NOT bash them out of the way. Penalties will be given for bad driving only after a warning has been given. YOU ARE RACING THE CLOCK NOT EACH OTHER. The track is there for a reason to show you where to go, so don’t cut across corners it is not quicker especially if you get caught and penalties are applied. You also run the risk of pushing the track out of shape to the detriment of all the other racers. Car retrieval should only be done by the marshals and any repairs or engine restarts must be done off the race track. Once the race is completed you have a maximum of 30 seconds to switch off your engines and transmitters. This rule clarifies who has control of a frequency between races.
Marshalling
Everyone is expected to marshal after their race. Repairs and adjustments should be done after you have marshalled and not after you have raced. It is recommended that some form of high visibility clothing be worn when racing under artificial lighting. This allows the drivers concentrating on their cars to have a better chance of seeing you should you be on the track, this is for their benefit as well as yours. Marshal as you would want to be marshalled, keep your eyes on the track in front of you. Make sure you put the car down on the correct side of the track, facing the correct way and not directly in front of another oncoming car. Do NOT SHOUT at the marshal, it’s your fault you need him, not his. If you are racing in multiple races you are responsible for finding someone who can marshal for you while you are unable to. If you do not marshal you will be penalised by your race results. The penalties are 25% deduction of your total laps for the meeting for the first offence increasing by 25% per offence. If you constantly miss your marshalling slot you will be excluded from racing.
End of the Evening
All drivers are expected to help with clearing away of the track and other race equipment as appropriate, unless there is a good reason. Again, if you are continuously unhelpful you could be excluded from racing. Make sure you pick up everything and the venue is left as you found it. Results will be posted on the web site on a monthly basis. You can check out your results and loads of other info at weymouthrc.co.uk
